Just ran across a great article about the future of social media, the problems and challenges facing corporations in the new media world, and allusions to the Next Big Thing. Much of this was apparent though multiple discussions at Podcamp as well.
So here is my prediction for the future (possibly near future). Call it Web 3.0 if you want, the fact is there is just so much user contributed content on the Internet now that it easily gets overwhelming. The Next Big Thing will be the filtering apps - websites like FriendFeed that bring all your Facebook, Twitter, Email, RSS feed etc accounts into one easy interface with smart filtering technology so that you see what you want, and nothing else.
So, who wants to create the next Facebook with me? I’ll need a little funding… ;-)
